Last week, NOAA warned of an “extremely active” Atlantic hurricane season, with 2-5 major hurricanes now in the forecast.

With this in mind, Roanoke Electric Co-op officials are emphasizing the importance of having hurricane preparedness plans in place. North Carolina sits on the Atlantic coast, and when hurricanes hit the region they often bring with them flooding, power loss and wind-damage.

The Roanoke Electric Care Trust board recently awarded grants to five community groups, as part of the co-op’s Operation RoundUp program. Third quarter grants totaled $10,111.25 and were presented to the following organizations:
