Member-owners gathered at Roanoke Electric Cooperative’s headquarter office on Thursday, April 20, to try its high-speed internet network offered through its Roanoke Connect Phase II project.
We Need Your Help!
We need your help to determine if we can expand Roanoke Connect to bring broadband services to homes and businesses in our region.
|Your cooperative prides itself on being able to provide you with the cutting-edge service you expect and deserve. As we're continuing to respond to your call to serve, we have a $4 million fiber project on tap, known as Roanoke Connect.|
Our main motivation for bringing this broadband technology to the area is to ultimately take care of our internal, operational needs. As a result, this project will benefit outage frequency as well as response time to outages while better equipping Roanoke to help member-owners like you manage energy and reduce system losses. We want to ensure that all of our substations can communicate with one another in order that we can better predict and manage outages, protect our substations and metering equipment from vandalism and theft, and are more proactive about communicating with each individual member-owner about their usage.
Secondly, this project will help bring broadband services to member-owners in our area. However, REC will not be providing this service but will only enable it. How? REC will be providing access to its infrastructure so that technology service providers or internet service providers (ISP's ) can provide the services to member-owners.
In essence. we hope that this project will bring a higher level of service to each and every one of our member-owners.
